New Improvements to the website 2.1.1

Posted by Rocky Davidson on 23rd February 2007

Thanks for your patience

I upgraded our website to the latest version of wordpress (2.1.1) last weekend and in the process messed a few things up. Thankfully, I believe we are back in business. I apologize for some emails that may have gone out from my fixings.

First of all, the Pink is for the Cherry Blossom Festival, a new color will arrive in April…. 8-)

But……………

While I was digging around, I added a few little goodies.

New and improved videos. You should take a few minutes and watch them.

A few new items:
1 The site login is right on the front left sidebar, right above the new
2 Instant messaging. Now you will be able to see when someone else is logged into the site and who it is. With the instant messaging you can even chat with them. Remember everyone else can see what you are posting so be nice.
3. I have rearranged the calendars to all go on the left sidebar. Included with that is a new list of the coming month’s activities which are being fed from the troop calendar.
4 We have new improved search features and more of a “tag cloud” format for posts.
5 At the bottom right you can see other websites that are linked back to us.
6 Gary found a great backpacking site with podcasts. Look to the left sidebar for links.

Gary and others have also been very good about posting the pictures up to Google’s site which I also enjoy seeing. A recent feature google has added is the ability for you to download the pictures to your computer and also to order prints online.

No one has ventured out there yet but if you would like to have any outing videos, get them up on youtube and we can add them to the website also.

We also can hosts polling if there is a question someone would like to put out there.

If you have any suggestions for improvements or you find any little problems I may have missed please email me at webmaster@troop170macon.org. Also, if you want to learn more about how to use the site, I will be happy to help. :?:

Happy Scouting!
Rocky

Philmont Test Audio Blog

Posted by Rocky Davidson on 2nd July 2006

We are set up to broadcast reports from the upcoming Philmont trip. When we get a new audio report we will put it on the website.

Here is what they will hopefully be like. “Double Click” on the arrow to hear the report. (You must have speakers on your computer)

Gary Sparks has turned in this report

The leader and trailer were supplied by my son and a Troop 170 Eagle

How to save your scout $150 on software that you probably need for your computer.

Posted by Rocky Davidson on 26th June 2006

I was in Staples the other day and a woman was haggling with her son about buying Microsoft’s Office software for their computer. I listened for a while as I was looking for some other things and finally I asked why they were buying the software. She said that she got a lot of email from a friend who would routinely send her email with word attachments that she could not open. After talking a little more, I suggested that she consider downloading OpenOffice instead of buying anything. Of course she had never heard of it so I explained what it could do and how she could get it. Read the rest of this entry »
